## About the job
Red Hat is on a mission to be the catalyst in communities of customers, contributors, and partners creating better technology the open source way. To help fulfill that mission, the User Experience Design (UXD) team is looking for a Senior UX Designer to contribute to the design, strategy, implementation, and evolution of PatternFly: Red Hat’s open source design system.

The UXD team helps make Red Hat products easy—and enjoyable—for all people to use. Our global team of researchers, designers, content designers, and developers work together to bridge the technical world to the human world with intuitive and approachable product experiences. While each of us has unique skills and talents, we all agree that the best ideas come from diverse minds and fresh perspectives. Whether we’re collaboratively supporting Red Hat’s product portfolio, exchanging ideas in upstream communities, or crunching code for PatternFly (Red Hat’s open source design system), our focus on teamwork, empathy, and transparency play a key role in building products our users love.

What you will do

We’re looking for someone with strong design, leadership, and technical skills who has experience creating design systems and libraries and can work across disciplines to align behind unified design language principles. As a Senior UX Designer, you will:

  • Contribute to the PatternFly design system across components, styles, layouts, and more.
  • Build, maintain, and evolve a shareable PatternFly design library in Figma.
  • Design for breaking visual changes, including new visual themes.
  • Consult with product designers around using the PatternFly design system in products to establish a consistent, accessible, and on-brand cross-portfolio product experience.
  • Ensure that product designers are provided with the tools and information needed to use PatternFly to its fullest, allowing them to create solutions confidently and efficiently.
  • Plan, strategize, and execute the PatternFly design experience to define the look, feel, and function of all Red Hat products.
  • Regularly collaborate across UXD Research, Design, and Development teams to ensure that PatternFly designs are built, scaled, maintained, and implemented in ways that serve users.
  • Connect various design teams and efforts across Product, Brand, and Digital to work towards a shared design language and create alignment across website, marketing, brand, and product design experiences.

What you will bring

You might be a good fit for this role if:

  • You’re skilled at creating design systems and contributing to their design success.
  • You’re proficient in Figma and comfortable with designing and using token and variable systems.
  • You have experience working in GitHub.
  • You have experience designing WCAG-compliant, accessible interfaces.
  • You have graphic and visual design experience and value the importance of visual unity across a product portfolio.
  • You’re a clear communicator who can align teams around a shared vision.
  • You have a design portfolio.
  • You hold a college degree in Graphic Design, User-Centered Design, Human Factors, or a related field.

    Preferred qualifications
  • UI animation and/or illustration skills
  • HTML/CSS knowledge
