As a Senior Data Analyst at CandleScience, you will help inform and accelerate some of our business' most important decisions. This role will be focused on deep analysis of some of the core questions that many eCommerce businesses are faced with, and will have access to data sets from every corner of the business.
Common tools and languages we use for data visualization, modeling, and analysis include:

  • Looker
  • Hex
  • SQL, Python, and R
  • Google Sheets
  • Microsoft Excel
    While you don’t need to have experience with all of these tools to be qualified, SQL proficiency is strongly recommended, and python or R experience would help you stand-out.
    Apart from your technical skills, we value communication skills with both technical and non-technical colleagues and peers. The Analytics function impacts nearly every area of the business. And while we’re not expected to be experts in every business function (leave the accounting to the accountants!), it is critical for us to be able to help each department ask and answer questions that drive the business forward and improve customer experiences.     **Responsibilities: **
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the complexities and relationships within our schemas/data models
  • What data do we have, what don’t we have
  • What filter or table structure gives valid answers
  • etc
  • Use both prepared data sets and ad hoc queries/projects to gather and process data for analysis
  • Synthesize, prepare, and present findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders from across the business
  • Be statistically responsible with claims and findings, clearly noting assumptions and limitations of as a part of any analysis
  • Follow coding style guides and provide documentation for any new models or projects
  • Help field and prioritize requests from across the business as well as identify opportunities for proactive analysis
    **Example Analysis projects: **
  • Analyze sales and inventory volumes and recommend ideal inventory balancing across our distribution centers
  • Research and analyze data from our digital marketing campaigns and compare them to our customer data to determine the CAC by channel
  • Evaluate ways to reduce shipping costs to customers while minimizing or preventing substantial margin loss
  • Determine if the customer’s acquisition channel affects LTV
  • Help develop and deploy a media mix model (MMM)
  • Analyze sales activity of low-selling products to see if they are generally part of other important orders
    **Requirements: **
  • Fully remote or on-site in Durham, NC
  • At least 3+ years of experience conducting analysis and presenting findings
  • SQL proficiency
  • Experience using popular BI tools or similar (Looker, PowerBI, Tableau, Google Data Studio, etc)
  • Excellent communication skills. You will regularly translate complex analysis into succinct conclusions for technical and non-technical audiences
  • Mathematics/statistics background a plus but not required
