Making developers and data scientists more productive has always been at the core of what we do. It’s what the market and our customers expect of us. Making SAS analytics available as software-as-a-service is yet another frontier ensuring we continue to rise to the demands of that market and those customers. Last year at SAS Explore, we announced two exciting new products at the intersection of these expectations, SAS Viya Workbench and SAS App Factory. Both products aim to make data engineers, data scientists and app developers more productive.

As the Director of the Software-as-a-Service division, you'll report directly to the SVP of R&D Platform Engineering. You’ll be leading the teams responsible for delivering these exciting new products and other offerings in the future. SAS’s expectations for this part of our portfolio and this role are high. It will be a fast-paced and demanding job. You’ll be expected to jump in with both feet and to lead with a sense of urgency. You’ll be leading a small, but rapidly expanding division full of wickedly talented individuals. Corralling and channeling these personalities will take the right person. You must deliver while not stifling innovation. We want someone that is passionate about leadership, analytics and software-as-a-service.

Specifically, we’re looking for someone to help us:

  • Understand both the specific value SAS analytics can provide as software-as-a-service and the operational demands and rigor required to be successful in this space.
  • Execute aggressive timelines to ensure we meet our internal goals and objectives.
  • Balance delivering high-quality software while establishing and nurturing culture within a new organization.

As the Software-as-a-Service Director, you will:

  • Develop strategic priorities for the Software-as-a-Service division.
  • Create and reinforce a goal-oriented, collaborative, and people-first culture across the division. · Provide product direction and leadership through collaboration with other division leaders, product management, marketing, sales, product experience, our customers, and others within and outside SAS.
  • Create and support a culture that is focused on critical thinking; prioritize the development of business acumen and its applicability to help customers achieve business value.
  • Monitor and ensure that products/projects adhere to established R&D practices, standards, procedures and schedules.
  • Provide technical leadership as appropriate to the Software-as-a-Service division.
  • Initiate and enable cross-divisional collaboration to improve the overall effectiveness of the R&D Platform Engineering organization.
  • Engage and collaborate with the R&D Platform Engineering architecture team to evolve our software into a next-generation cloud-native platform.
  • Represent the company and the Software-as-a-Service portfolio within or outside the company.
  • Proactively identify and navigate potential issues and resolve blockers to meet deadlines and schedules.

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in quantitative field.

  • 12+ years of related software development experience.

  • 5+ years of experience managing technical staff of all levels of experience.

  • Demonstrated success refining product requirements while leading an organization to develop and deliver products and tools that meet those requirements.

  • Ability to bring form and structure to the ambiguous.

  • Extremely strong analytical, presentation and communication skills.

  • Proven ability to interface with, influence and manage all levels of the organization.
